A glance and a nod to the past; Setting goals and checking in; Celebrating oneself. … Myself. A year in review.

It’s important to assess your values from time to time, to make sure you’re keeping on track with where you want your life to go. I want my life to include deep and meaningful connections. And that means being vulnerable.

Depression sucks, especially when it becomes the natural response to stress. Over the years I’ve incorporated many coping strategies to help make my downturns as short as possible.

In 2017, I took a motorcycle safety course, got my endorsement, and bought my first motorcycle.
In 2019, doing about 55 mph, a deer ran out in front of me. I braked hard and laid the bike down. Didn't hit the deer, but totalled the bike - and walked away with only minor personal damage.

Linocut is something I haven’t done since high school, but I had the opportunity to make art with a friend and chose to make a Poe-themed original piece.

2024-04-23 - Logo Update

Artwork in Various Mediums / Quick Update

New logos just dropped. I did some heavy digital modification to a picture of my eye in bright sunlight, got rid of the eyelid and turned it purple.

My leather jacket needed some TLC and an old hoodie graphic needed a new home after the zipper failed.

I found a "VIRGINTIY ROCKS" lanyard on the side of the road… It needed improvement.

Website Update

Welcome to the newly renovated Jeklyn Hyde (dot) com.
It has gotten a well-deserved makeover, and some shiny new features. Take a look around to see what’s new!

2024-04-09 - Lil’ Update

Quick Update

Slowly, slowly, we’re getting things more refined here. Things should be a lot less clunky now and a lot more intuitive to interact with. It is still a work in progress (just like the person putting it together!), so bare with us while we continue to make updates.
"I Don't Owe You Jacq" has been updated to simply "Don't Owe You Jacq" in the banner here, but the page link has been left with the text "Writing & Weblogs".

Photographic Adventures

I have over 500 GB (> 50.000 files) worth of pictures and videos in just one of my photography directories. Most of my pictures get sent to a couple close friends, then transferred to my computer (their apparent final resting place). It’s time I change that and lean harder into a hobby that I love.

2024 - March

What does it mean to be human? How are we limited? How can we expand?
We all have obstacles to overcome in our lives, but it's up to us to take responsibility for ourselves and choose growth.

2024 - February

Weblog Post

Progress update on the goals I've set for myself this year. Staying sober, aiming to lose 40 lbs, and reading more books. It's been going better than expected and I have so much more to update on when I make the time.

Quick Update

"I Don't Owe You Jacq" is the new name for my "Writing & Weblogs" section. It's a play off my name and the fact that I don't owe anyone any information about myself, nor do I owe anyone to act or behave any certain way. I am my own person, and it's just by the whims of my brain (whenever I can remember add to this space) that you get to see a tiny window into my life.

As an AFAB person, I find it very interesting that I shied away from anything "girly" when I was growing up and into my early 20's. Eventually I felt secure enough in my masculinity to start exploring my feminine side.

When tasks are incomplete, the key is to add them to the next day, or add them to a separate list so as to not get overwhelmed by too many open goals. Things that don't need to happen now can be tracked elsewhere and be used as a source when you find yourself looking for something to do.

ADHD and depression can really throw a wrench in the works when you're trying to take care of yourself. Alcohol doesn't help that equation at all. Medication can sometimes assist in the transition back to a healthier lifestyle, but its not for me right now.

Weblog Post

I own too damn many sticky notes. So I've started putting them to use by writing down my goals each day. This will help keep me on task & provides a hard record of progress as a reminder of how far I've come.

Sometimes I let stuff get in the way of "doing the thing", whatever it is. And sometimes the key is to use a temporary solution to at least get things started so that it has a better chance of getting done at all.

So, I'm 35 now. I've been letting myself go a lot recently. It came to head a couple days ago when my sister and I weighed ourselves when she was visiting for dinner. She was in the 190 range and I was 188. This is after eating a full dinner and dessert and having many drinks around the table. But it helped to serve as a wake-up call.

With my hobbies consistently falling by the wayside, I realize that I need to shift my focus again and set some goals for my future. Alcohol is a major factor, so it's time to self-impose another sabbatical to help me on that journey.

2021

Weblog Post

Depression sucks so I reach out in my own ways looking for help. But a lot of motivational videos end up ducking into some kind of religious / spiritual thread, which is often distasteful to me, but I find ways to think around it.

I've been given the go-ahead to repair a phonograph, so I see soldering in my future. Once that happens, then I can start listening to my inherited collection to see what's worth keeping.

Weblog Post

Every once in a while it helps to reassess my life and start working toward pointing it in the right direction. I find it helpful to draw external inspiration and to list my intentions to help set and prioritize goals.
